My grandparent moved to Gairloch in the 1960s, and I have spent my life in and around the West Coast of Scotland. It took five years to plan, design, and build the bothies, with a strong emphasis on blending with the local environment using local materials such as Larch, Oak and slate with a wee bit of Marbel from Italy . The design ensures that the views south over the sea to the Torridon mountains can be enjoyed from every room. These views are ever-changing throughout the day, influenced by the weather, tides, and shifting sunlight. This connection to the landscape is at the heart of the bothies’ appeal.
